Midnight Mama Hot Cocoa for One
Ingredients
- tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar (depending on how sweet you like it)
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup milk or any combination of milk, half-and-half, or cream, soy, almond milk, etc...
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- pinch of cinnamon (optional)
It's midnight (or...you know...3am) and everyone else is asleep. Um, yeah you deserve a little treat. (Admission: okay, technically this can be made during the day, too, and even shared with the fam, but I like it best in the still of the night, all by my lonesome, and of course topped with marshmallows!)
Directions
- Whisk together the cocoa, sugar, salt, and about 2 tablespoons milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until cocoa and sugar are dissolved.
- Whisk in the rest of the milk and heat it over medium heat, whisking occasionally, until it is hot. Stir in the vanilla and serve.
- This recipe multiplies easily. When you get up to a quart of milk, use 1/4 teaspoon salt.
Hot Tip - If you like it frothy, blend it in the blender.

Did you know that babies have more taste buds than adults? Luckily, these little taste receptors are highly adaptable. In fact, research shows that the more times babies are exposed to a food or flavour, the more likely they are to except it and even develop a preference for it. It takes a baby to try a new food up to 10 times before they decide if they like it or not. TEN TIMES! so, during this stage, when your baby is learning to eat new foods and textures, you have a great opportunity to teach your child to love delicious, wholesome foods! The recipes in this section provide a wide variety of nutrient rich ingredients and fresh flavours to grow on!
